The Fast Lane

In Singapore, our vehicles are right-hand drive. It is something that we inherited from our “British Master” during the colonial time.

On the expressway, faster moving vehicle are to keep to the right while the slow moving ones, including vans, lorries, buses, trucks should keep to the left. However, things have changed much recently. If you drive along our expressway, you will notice that these slow moving vehicles are now occupying all the lanes except the right most. As a result, cars are forced to squeeze themselves all in just the right most lanes.

Of course, they will quickly move backed to the left most lane when the traffic police appeared. However, when the traffic police is out of sight, they will quickly moved to the right lane again as swiftly as the traffic police motorcycle the zoom past them.

While we inherited the right-hand drive from the British, sometime I just wished that we could have also inherited their good manners and gentleman behavior.
