It is a good strategy because most of the time, we trust our friends' opinions and recommendations. Sometime we trust our friends even more than our parents or experts!
One of my FYP team also found this out from their survey on whether teenagers click on the advertisement links on websites. Many of the respondents to the survey responded that they normally do not click on advertisement links on search engine and other sites. However, they will tend to click on advertisements posted at their friends' blog.
So what is your opinion? Do you trust your friends recommendations?

Over time, when more and more people are paying for recommandations, people will start to do it for profits rather than for more valid motivation. When this happen, friends will start to be skeptical of the recommandations that their friends make and this will result in bad response and as such, these methods will stop.
However, another outcome could be that because of the personal liability that friends put on line when making recommendations, they will also do selecting when recommending products to their friends.
Despite that this might be something that is suitable for making small money, it could not be used for large scale projects. This is because if someone were to frequently recommands products/services to his/her friends, it is likely to be irritating to the friend and such as, may result in the referee cutting off the connection. In addition, due to the limitation of products/services, the referee may gain awareness that such recommendations are made due to motivation of profits, and because referrer are afraid of affecting the friendship, he/she may only do such referal when he/she is confident that such act will not tarnish the friendship.
This in turn, result in a limitation which translates to an equalvelent of mouth to mouth advertising when the product is good, since then, why go through all the trouble?
